Patrick Simkins

Graduating in 2008 with a first class honours degree in BA Fine Art and Illustration, Patrick has never looked back and has made swift progress in the art world. He has been commissioned by a number of public spaces, including the production of two 12ftx8ft paintings for Coventry Building Society’s head office, and has reached 2 consequative finals in National competitions.

Patrick paints striking abstract cityscapes of well known and sometimes obscure London viewpoints.  Finding a balance between the placid historic architecture and the rush of the streets below, the works display the vibrancy of our multicultural city while maintaining its traditional forms.

“My paintings are full of energy. Painting with thick oil paint, the medium’s richness and texture allows me to drip, drag and smear the paint; and allow it to shape the final imagery on the canvas.”

On first impression, Patrick’s paintings seem a mesh of colour. As the viewer continues to look and make sense of the painting, soon a noticeable landmark emerges and the colours and marks become a visually stimulating cityscape full of life and energy. The variety of marks that are made and the multi-layering of paint on the canvas mean that something different is noticed on every view.

He has been rewarded with a number of group shows as well as 2 solo shows already. The future looks bright for this young artist.
