Lucy Naughton
Lucy chooses to work in splendid isolation, seeking abandoned, desolate, ephemeral places in which to experiment uninhibited with her photography.
Working alone, Lucy’s venturesome, spontaneous style is inherent in her work as she explores the tension created when an organic, pliable, feminine form is juxtaposed with industrial, masculine settings.
In her use of gas masks she further distorts the boundaries between femininity and masculinity creating surreal and somewhat disquieting images which linger unresolved in the mind’s eye. The transient nature of her backdrops enhances the atmosphere of unease; a stolen, private moment between Lucy and her decomposing counterpart.
Levels of colour saturation and the density of shadows are manipulated in post processing whilst retouching of the photography is kept to an absolute minimum to preserve the natural beauty of these neglected environments.
Archival quality lambda c-type prints, mounted on aluminium are signed and numbered to an edition of seven.
